Abstract

Proverbs and other clichés are considered as a fragment of the linguistic picture of the world. The specificity of a linguistic symbol as a cultural phenomenon that can have personal or collective cultural significance is described. Examples of proverbs are analyzed as linguistic symbols that carry linguistic and cultural information in various contextual situations.
