Abstract

This study explores the lessons learned by South African universities during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, focusing on the challenges and adaptations in higher education. It examines how universities navigated the sudden shift to online learning, the impact on student engagement, and the strategies implemented to ensure academic continuity. Through interviews with administrators, faculty, and students, the research identifies key lessons in technology integration, crisis management, and the importance of flexible learning environments. The findings offer valuable insights into how universities can improve their preparedness for future crises and enhance the resilience of higher education systems.
