EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP IN THE CONTEXT OF STRESS AND BURNOUT: PERSPECTIVES FROM MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONALS IN SINGAPORE

Abstract

This study examines educational leadership in the context of stress and burnout, drawing on perspectives from mental health professionals in Singapore. It explores how school leaders experience and manage stress and burnout, and how these challenges affect their leadership effectiveness and decision-making. Through interviews with mental health professionals, the research identifies the contributing factors to burnout, including workload, emotional strain, and organizational pressures. The study also highlights the role of supportive leadership practices, such as self-care, resilience-building, and promoting a positive school culture, in mitigating stress and preventing burnout. The findings offer insights for school leaders to foster well-being and maintain effectiveness in challenging environments.
