THE DUAL ROLE OF POETRY IN ENGLISH TEACHING: DEVELOPING LANGUAGE SKILLS AND CREATIVE EXPRESSION

Abstract
This study explores the dual role of poetry in English teaching, focusing on its capacity to develop language skills while fostering creative expression. It examines how poetry serves as an effective pedagogical tool for enhancing vocabulary, grammar, and reading comprehension, while simultaneously encouraging students to articulate emotions and ideas imaginatively. Using a mixed-methods approach, including classroom observations and student feedback, the research highlights strategies for integrating poetry into the curriculum to balance linguistic proficiency and creativity. The findings reveal that engaging with poetry not only improves language acquisition but also nurtures critical thinking and emotional intelligence. Practical implications for educators are discussed to maximize the potential of poetry in English instruction.
