Abstract

This article examines the main factors and mechanisms that lead to the emergence of synonyms in the Russian language, classifies them by types, and provides examples. Synonymy is one of the most significant linguistic phenomena, characterized by the existence of multiple words that can express similar or identical meanings. In Russian, synonyms play a vital role in enhancing expressiveness, avoiding tautology, expanding semantic range, and facilitating communication. The emergence of synonyms is linked to the historical development of the language, cultural and social changes, and the dynamics of the lexical system.
