Abstract

This meta-analytic study explores the intricate interplay between organizational culture and leadership strategies in the realm of crisis management. Drawing on a diverse body of literature, four key themes emerged to illuminate critical dynamics within organizations facing crises. Firstly, an adaptive organizational culture exhibited a positive correlation with effective crisis leadership, emphasizing the importance of aligning cultural norms with the dynamic demands of crises. Second, communication openness within organizational culture emerged as a catalyst for coordinated crisis response, enabling swift and accurate information dissemination and fostering climates of trust. Trust, identified as the third theme, served as a foundational element influencing decentralized decision-making approaches during crises, enhancing coordination and empowering organizational members. The fourth and final theme highlighted the nuanced challenge of balancing adaptability with cultural inertia. While adaptive cultures enhanced crisis responsiveness, an abrupt departure from entrenched cultural norms posed challenges, urging leaders to strike a delicate balance between leveraging cultural strengths and introducing adaptive changes. Collectively, these findings provide valuable insights for organizational leaders navigating crises, emphasizing the need for a strategic alignment of organizational culture with effective crisis leadership. The study contributes to both theoretical understanding and practical implications, offering a roadmap for organizations seeking to cultivate resilient and responsive cultures in the face of unprecedented challenges.
