Abstract

This scope review study examines the planning and management strategies employed in principal succession within the educational context of the Philippines. Through a systematic analysis of relevant literature, the study identifies key findings and highlights the importance of proactive planning, candidate development, comprehensive orientation, ongoing support, and community engagement in successful principal succession. The study emphasizes the significance of succession planning as a foundation for effective principal succession. Identifying and developing potential candidates for future principal positions ensures a smooth transition and maintains continuity in leadership. Candidate development programs, such as mentoring and professional development opportunities, play a crucial role in equipping aspiring principals with the necessary skills and competencies. Comprehensive orientation programs for incoming principals are highlighted as an important management strategy. By familiarizing new principals with the school's culture, policies, and stakeholders, these programs facilitate their integration into the school community and support relationship-building. Ongoing support and professional development are crucial for principals during their tenure. Providing mentoring, coaching, and networking opportunities ensures continuous growth and helps principals navigate challenges effectively. The study emphasizes the involvement of the school community in principal succession processes. Engaging teachers, staff, students, and parents fosters collaboration, trust, and a shared vision for the school. The findings of this study contribute to the understanding of principal succession strategies in the Philippines and highlight the need for addressing challenges such as limited planning, inadequate professional development, and insufficient community engagement. Further research is warranted to explore the long-term impact of succession strategies and to evaluate the effectiveness of existing programs. By implementing effective planning and management strategies, educational institutions can enhance principal succession practices and contribute to improved educational outcomes.
