The Importance of Academic Freedom in Uzbekistan's Higher Education System and its Impact on Educational Quality

Abstract

This article examines the concept, legal framework, and practical outcomes of academic freedom in Uzbekistan’s higher education system. Academic freedom and university autonomy are considered to be foundational pillars for enhancing educational quality. The article highlights the positive effects of institutional independence in developing curricula and conducting research. Uzbekistan’s experience is compared with international models, particularly those of the United States, Europe, and Canada. The study analyzes how governance, financial, and academic autonomy influence the quality of education in foreign higher education institutions. It is argued that academic freedom allows universities to fully realize and express their intellectual potential.
