Abstract

The mix design of B25-class heavyweight concrete is formulated as a constrained optimization problem for material consumption. The model combines the absolute-volume balance with constraints on the water–cement ratio, predicted strength, and technological suitability. Experimental design, estimation of regression coefficients, assessment of prediction quality, and the search for minimum calculated cost are considered. A reproducible demonstration calculation for 12 mixtures is presented. The numerical strength values in the example are model-generated rather than laboratory test results; therefore, they do not confirm achievement of class B25 without subsequent testing of specimens. Conditions for practical implementation of the algorithm in a production laboratory are described.
