Abstract

This paper presents the design of an ultrawideband (UWB) antenna that includes three notched bands for WLAN, WiMAX, and the downlink of X-band satellite communication systems. The UWB antenna utilizes a coplanar waveguide (CPW) configuration. By introducing Π-slot, C-slot, and Г-stub on the proposed antenna, three notched-bands are produced at frequencies of 3.5, 5.58, and 7.55 GHz. This antenna has a wide impedance bandwidth, ranging from 2.88 to 16.8 GHz, with a voltage standing wave ratio of less than 2. It covers the whole ultra-wideband (UWB) frequency range and has three specific frequency ranges that are notched out: 3.27–3.65 GHz, 4.45–5.8 GHz, and 7.4–7.7 GHz. The main advantage of the proposed antenna is that the notched bands could be tuned and controlled simply to meet various practical requirements. An excellent correlation was achieved between the simulation and the measurement.
