Advancing Environmental Education in Uzbekistan: Investigating Practices, Perceptions, and Pro-Environmental Behaviors for Sustainable Development
Main Article Content
Abstract
Environmental education (EE) plays a pivotal role in fostering sustainable development and promoting pro-environmental behaviors. This study investigates the current practices, perceptions, and challenges in implementing environmental education in Uzbekistan. Using a mixed-methods approach, data were collected through surveys, interviews, and classroom observations involving educators, students, and policymakers. Findings reveal that while environmental awareness among students is growing, there is a need for more integrative and practical approaches to environmental education. Limited resources, lack of teacher training, and insufficient integration of sustainability concepts into the curriculum were identified as key barriers. The study underscores the importance of incorporating localized strategies and global best practices to enhance EE in Uzbekistan. Recommendations include curriculum reform, professional development for educators, and increased collaboration between educational institutions and environmental organizations to cultivate a generation of environmentally responsible citizens.
