ADAPTIVE LEADERSHIP IN HIGHER EDUCATION: EXPLORING THE ROLE OF CULTURE AND CRISIS MANAGEMENT

Abstract
This study investigates the role of adaptive leadership in higher education, focusing on its interplay with institutional culture and crisis management. Adaptive leadership, characterized by its emphasis on flexibility, collaboration, and responsiveness to change, has gained prominence as higher education institutions face increasing complexity and global challenges. Using a qualitative approach, the research examines case studies from universities that successfully navigated crises, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and financial disruptions, to explore how leadership styles align with organizational culture to ensure resilience and continuity. Findings reveal that institutions with a culture of innovation and inclusivity are better positioned to leverage adaptive leadership practices during crises. Key strategies include fostering open communication, encouraging stakeholder engagement, and maintaining a clear yet flexible vision. The study highlights the importance of aligning leadership approaches with institutional values to build a sustainable and crisis-ready educational ecosystem. Recommendations are provided for leaders in higher education to cultivate adaptive capabilities and strengthen institutional resilience in the face of uncertainty.
